The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s soccer team has signed three soccer talents, one of which is an upcoming Abbotsford Senior Secondary School grad.

The school announced the additions of Abbotsford’s Joel Bangura and Surrey products Dominik Henriques and Jorryn Gill on Tuesday (March 26).

The trio will join the program this fall.

“All three of these players have spent time with the BC Provincial team program, as well being stand out players for their Surrey United club team,” stated men’s team head coach Tom Lowndes. “They all have physical and technical attributes to compete for playing time immediately with our squad and I look forward to them joining us this pre-season.”

Bangura is a 5-11 wingback/forward and is a 2024 Abbotsford Senior grad.

“His biggest strengths are his 1v1 attacking capabilities, his speed in the final third and his finishing abilities,” stated men’s team head coach Tom Lowndes. “He has shown a real desire to improve and elevate his game in the last 12 months, and he is a player who will push our current attackers for playing time this season.”

Henriques is a 5-9 midfielder and is a 2024 Holy Cross Regional High School grad.

“He is able to cover ground as a box-to-box midfielder and can physically compete at the highest level,” Lowndes said. “We identified at bringing more central players into our squad for this season and we are delighted we were able to secure Dom for next year.”

Gill is a 6-1 defender and graduates from Burnsview Secondary later this year.

“He is technically very strong and his passing ability is excellent,” Lowndes said. “He will provide depth in numerous positions, and I believe that he will be a fantastic addition to our squad. He brings a winning mentality and leadership qualities that I think will benefit our squad as we head into the 2024 Canada West season.”

The trio join a Cascades team that finished 3-13 and out of the playoffs in 2023. The CW regular season will likely begin in late-August or early-September.
