An upcoming concert featuring five bands will raise funds to help keep a skate park in Hope open.

The event, Save HMI Skatepark Fundraiser Concert, is set for Saturday, March 14.

The punk rock show features bands Cop Shuvit, The Spewers, False Flags, The Bobby’s, and The Fomites. It is hosted by SKG Promotions.

The indoor skate park is trying to raise $30,000 by April in order to renew its three-year lease.

As of March 4, more than $8,700 had been raised. Money has come in through bottle drives, T-shirt sales, a pizza night, the premiere of film Blind Corners, and other donations.

Before the March 14 fundraiser concert, a flea market will be set up in the backyard of HMI Skatepark, plus there will be a car wash in the front parking lot during the day.

The concert at HMI Skatepark starts at 7 p.m. and includes merchandise, raffles and snacks. Admission is a minimum donation of $20 (cash or card).

HMI Skatepark is the only indoor skate park in the Eastern Fraser Valley. Since opening in 2020, it has served approximately 700 skateboarders every year through regular drop-ins, lessons, and community events. Many of these lessons are either free, or at a reduced cost, thanks to donations and sponsorships from the community and local organizations.
